Beyond organic
Where Innovation, tradition
and passion converge
In the heart of Mallorca, within the village of Porreres, lies Montesion Wine Estate managed by the family-owned winery Can Feliu, where the art of winemaking is honed to perfection. Every step, from grape harvest to bottling, unfolds within this estate. Boasting over 30 hectares of vineyards and 70 hectares Farming (Biodiverse including forests, wild and domesticated animals and grains) the Can Feliu family is dedicated to organic and biodynamic farming practices. This commitment ensures that each bottle of Montesion Wine embodies the pure essence of the land, free from synthetic chemicals and nurtured through holistic agricultural methods.
The history
of our winery
Wine cultivation on the CAN FELIU estate dates back as far as 1790. Historical records show grape deliveries and plantings on three plots: Son Drago, Son Barbut and Son Dagueta. These plots are still part of the estate today. However, like many wineries in Mallorca, our vineyard faced a devastating halt in the 1870s due to the phylloxera blight that swept across the country.
For over a century, the winery stood as a reminder of the past with the decline of an industry that once played a vital role in the island’s economy. The once-thriving vineyards were replaced by almond, olive, and carob trees, casting doubt on the possibility of revival.
In 1999, viticulturist Carlos Feliu, after studying winegrowing and winemaking in the United States, undertook the ambitious task of replanting the estate. What began as an experimental endeavor has developed into Son Naava and Montesion Wine Estate’s cooperation with CAN FELIU wines as we know it today, revitalizing the landscape and continuing Mallorca’s illustrious winegrowing tradition.
